Did some minor tweaks to rss.netbsd.se so it's hopefully more usable now.2008-09-28 10:31:38We are back on track, the queue is empty again.2008-09-27 18:49:13Okay... the catching up of the mail queue is going slower than expected, we are still a few days behind. We have kind of reach the limit of what our archiving server can handle but I'm hopping that the queue will go down tomorrow.2008-09-26 16:35:48Dammit... postfix has been down for a couple of days... forgot to start it so it will take a few hours before it's back to normal.2008-08-28 22:53:35There is backlog problem at the moment, so it might take up to 30-60 minutes before mails arrive, we are working on the problem.2008-08-11 15:54:25The search function is available since a few days, we have no fix for our machine problems but turning off 3 of the 4 cpus makes the machine stable. This however makes us running low on resources so it can be slow from time to time.2008-07-24 20:38:51Suck... all search services is once again down, we are still having problem with on of our database server and are trying to get a trace output from when it is panicing. The problem is that the machine panics when we use all four CPUs so then we have our trace we will move to a single processor kernel and all services will come back up, there is a problem with this to and that is that we can't cope all stuff that this server does with one cpu so things might be a little slow.2008-06-24 19:43:10The server is up and running again, it looks like data escaped corruption this time. The indexes is up to date.2008-06-22 21:56:28Suck... the database server that houses the search index is down again, we have had a lot of problems with that lately and have no solution to it right now. The machine will probably be rebooted tomorrow and then it will take about 24h to reload the databases.2008-04-13 10:05:44As you might have noticed there have been a lot of problems lately, the problems derive from a machine that has crashed with week intervals. We use this machine to build our search indexes, and due to the crapiness of MySQL MyISAM it becomes corrupt every time the machine crashes and we need to reload the server with fresh data which takes 24 hours every time and parts of the search index will be unavailable during this time. We think that the problem is due to an old kernel that by mistake made it into our production environment, hopefully the problem has been solved, we will see in about a week :) We are working on converting the archive to PostgreSQL.2008-04-04 20:12:46Searching on subject and author will be unavailable during the weekend, due to a crash we need do rebuild some tables.2008-03-31 22:06:44We created a couple of new indexes on the database earlier on today and due to that we currently have a huge backlog, it will have caught up later on tonight.2008-03-24 11:41:39Did some optimizations with the RSS-feeds, they where running painfully slow. Should be ok now.2007-12-09 11:04:17The search index is up2date again.2007-11-29 09:22:44Problems with the search index, we are having some problem with the search index and need to reindex about ~1 milion mails. We will be up2date in about a week or so.2007-09-04 22:34:59All search services are disabled due to a corrupt database, repair is running and will probably take all night. ONLY search is affected.2007-06-14 22:42:46We was offline for a couple of hours today, no data was lost but we had to load our master with a backup of the database due to a crash.2007-05-29 22:11:08We are rebuilting the indexes for about 600k mails due to some earlier errors, this places a lot of load on our server so the searches can be a little slow during the next day. It should be up 2 date withing the a day or two.2007-03-31 13:49:03Everything is back to normal, all search functions is working.2007-03-28 21:04:15We have installed new servers so everything should be back to normal i a few days (search functions)2007-03-28 19:57:36We have new servers installed, so everything should be up and running i a few days (search functions)2007-03-06 21:24:31We have started the indexingprocess again, the perlist search will be up2date in a day or two. The search on author/subject is still offline and will probably be for another month.2007-02-09 17:50:36The archive machine is dead but we have moved the archive process to another machine so the queue is arctive again, it will take at least a day to work trough the backlog.2007-02-03 14:58:38One of our machines is down so the queue is on hold until at least monday.2007-01-17 14:06:58As you might have notices we have had some problems lately, the problems came from a broken raid card in our main server (tellus.netbsd.se). Dell has replaced it for us and we are hopping that everything is back to normal. All services are back to normal except the fulltext search, we are reloading one of our database machines with data as it got corrupted when the main server crashed. ETA a couple of hours for the reload and a bunch of more hours to rebuild the fulltext indexes.2007-01-02 19:17:33We are experiencing problems with our NEW raid controller and we can't put to mutch load on the machine so the search index is on hold and will not be updated until we have solved the problems.2006-12-17 12:45:58We are doing some well needed table maintenance and i the meanwhile the archive is read only.2006-12-06 11:18:51To handle spam messages that has slipped through our spamfilters we have added a button in the bottom of each page to report a mail as spam.2006-11-28 16:57:55One of our servers is down so the mail queue is on hold, and the search index wont be updated until we have fixed the problem.2006-11-14 18:03:56New design, it was 2 years since the last redesign and we was never really happy with it. There are no new features just a redesign to XHTML 1.1, and alot of backend changes/cleanup. We hope you like the new design, tell us what you think!2006-10-29 17:58:28We have moved to a new server, so the service has gone up/down during the day. The move is done, please report any errors you find.2006-08-21 23:03:14Hi, This is what has happend, our main databaser server has crashed and it seems like it will stay like that :(, we are running on one database machine right now and that one is very very busy. We are hoping that we can order a new machine this week. We are doing this on our spare time and if want/can to give us financial help please contact admin(a)netbsd.se.2006-08-05 23:31:23The site has been unreachable a couple of days in the last month, this is due to DNS trouble, it has been taken care of and the dns server are more stable now.2006-05-22 22:22:54The archives turns 2 million mails :)2006-05-02 07:43:10The work is done and the spool is back online.2006-05-01 22:24:16Doing some data shuffling, the mailqueue is on hold until tomorrow morning.2006-02-23 23:52:35Finally... the new search service is finished, its per list and this time it really is fast ;) we build our own indexes now. I also changed the frontpage and some other thing that was annoying. Please report thing that dont work.2005-12-13 10:33:55The web was down for a few hours (dont know how long), our primary database server decided to block the webserver because it apparently was sending to many connection errors. The problem is fixed and will not happend again. No mails where lost.2005-09-28 19:01:13It is now possible to download the attachments from mails. Please report any errors that you see.2005-09-27 15:10:05News: Why have we done all this database work recently? The answer is that we today introduced a new mailparser that will be able to decode all mime messages, save all attachments. This function will only apply to new messages :( and you will not be able to download the attachments until we have implementet this function on the webpages.2005-09-27 13:25:30The work was done some time this morning.2005-09-26 19:44:46Again some database work has begun, ETA 11 hours, the feed is running and everything is as usual except that some mails might look kind of strange.2005-09-23 09:14:59The work is done and the feeds are spoling again, will have cought up in a couple of hours.2005-09-22 19:06:19OKej, the next phase of correcting the database design has begun, the feed is stopped and ETA is about 12-13 hours.2005-09-02 15:26:50The mails are spooling again, the work with the database is not done yet but we estimated that our servers can handle the load. The search function is five hours behind and wont be able to catch up until some time tonight. Bevare that some of the mails can look strange until all data is converted.2005-09-02 10:15:53We have started to correct a design flaw of the archives database, the service is in read-only and the work is estimated to take about 15 hours :(. The search service at archive.netbsd.se is behind and might not be able to catch up until in the end of the weekend or maybe the start of next week.2005-08-15 19:52:35Due to the huge amount of spam that the feedback form has generated, we have no added a image validate function.2005-08-08 11:18:55Added some python lists and imported mails one year back. Suggestions for lists to add are welcome.2005-06-27 18:20:04Happy birthday archive.netbsd.se, 1 milion mails archived.2005-05-28 10:57:54/var was full on your archive machine, mails where queing up on mx2. The problem is fixed and the mails is spooling back to be archived.2005-05-20 00:58:35The mailspool is flushing but its going to take about an half hour to catch up.2005-05-19 23:50:37The mailspool is on hold while we are doing some databasemaintence. ETA a couple of hours.2005-05-12 17:49:23Included graphs in every maillists to give you a better overview of mails per month.2005-05-09 12:42:17Decode quoted printable, I really dont know why this took so long to be implemented :P i guess we are lazy :)2005-05-08 02:23:55RSS feeds are now "live" updated and avalible for all lists.2005-04-26 14:24:33The search function has been updated and now prints which list the mail belongs to.2005-04-11 19:58:18Created a new category "BSD - Sweden" and moved NetBSD.se-snack & BUS and a new list hosted by www.openbsd.nu into this category.2005-03-30 22:21:29And finally.... the old server died for us and a new one has been bought and installed. The backlog of 95 000 mails took about 21 hours to archive. Another nice thing is that one more database sever has been acquired (Sun Enterprise 450, with 4 cpus and 2GB of memory) and as soon as we are done with it replication will be set up to ge a more scalable system. System information can be found here: http://www.netbsd.se/maskiner.php2005-02-13 22:03:59We have now enabled keyboard shortcuts. Of course 29k mails is not a big amount of data and the load on the machine is not very high but when alot of searches is hiting the disk the performance is going down.2004-02-01 00:00:00Everything seems to work fine, the archive contains about ~19000 mails and approximately 1200 new mail/day.2004-01-28 00:00:00Updated mysql to version 4.0.17, est downtime was 40 min.
